SOME TOUCHING PHOTOS FROM UGANDA!
When we got Miss Sanyu's letter from Uganda , we got so sad with some photos she sent us, which we would like to share with all of you.
Here is an excerpt of her letter and the photos
Yesterday it was a joyful day with the children who are HIV positive, I and other volunteers we made a Christmas party for them, they had alot of fun, children enjoyed alot of activities.
Majority of these children at times they are neglected and also stigmatized at home. it is a way of sharing God's love, we gave them some Christmas gifts like food, clothes, and also they liked face painting, I have attached some fotos.
Remember to pray for these children, God's provision to their lives because they need alot of care. Next year i will be spending my weekend helping out these children. i want to start training them different activities including art and craft which will help them in future.

Christmas Customs in Uganda
Miss Sanyu, our epals' from Uganda teacher, was kind enough to send us a letter describing the Christmas customs in Uganda.
It is so interesting. Here is part of this letter:
It is so interesting. Here is part of this letter:
Today i want to share about Christmas, Christmas in Uganda is called
‘Sekukulu,’. ‘ Mukulike okutuuka ku mazaalibwa’ is the greeting that all
Ugandans greet each other with as they congratulate one another for yet
another Christmas added to their age.
The Christmas season is the most important holiday of the year in Uganda and very festive. Christmas is ushered in as early as the first week of December by a business boom caused by the purchase of new clothes and Christmas cards which are popular among the urban dwellers.
City authorities and churches organize christens caroling and many Christmas choirs participate with the lighting of giant trees in the cities.
Sekukulu is not about giving and receiving presents as Christmas in other countries because majority here cannot afford it, instead it is sharing, love , food and new clothes.
We do not use candles but the church is well lit, decorated and the service includes many Christmas carols. The real holiday cooking starts on the night of the 24th. The morning Sekukulu, the church is filled full capacity; even people who never go to church attend on this day. People set to wear their new clothes, especially the women who will show off their new clothes, especially the women who will show off their new traditional dresses in rich colors with matching turbans. The service is followed by an incredible feast.
Some families starts planning for Christmas October when families start pointing out chickens could be slaughted on Sekukulu. Those chickens are coddled to make sure that they are nice and fat for Christmas. Chicken plays a central role in the Christmas feasting. Families that cannot afford chicken any other time somehow would find a way to purchase one. The process of getting ready for Christmas and preparing the meals is not a chore, but a joy. Love is the major ingredient.
The evening before sekukulu is a very exciting time as the aroma of the foods being prepared fills the air. The children are busy cleaning the home, especially sweeping the courtyard. The excitement builds, s more and more food gifts arrives from family to supplement the already planned. Everybody eats and drinks until they cannot eat anymore. After the major feast it is time of storytelling, games, visiting friends, dancing and singing while drinking soda .
Am Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with joy,
blessing and much success.
Good luck, lots of love, happiness and all the best in 2013!
Thank you so much for your love and care towards us
We are proud of you,
Merry Christmas! Jesus is born
Love , Sanyu

thanks from our friends in Uganda
A few days ago our friends from Uganda received our presents. Here is what their teacher, Miss Sanyu wrote to us:
Dearest Tina
It has been a wonderful and joyful day when my kids received the beautiful presents from you :) , am so much pleased for this love you have shown to children in Uganda. We just pray for God’s blessings over you. It is a day which majority of my kids will never forget and they told me that you hug for them your students. Some they had no even books to use, so this was a great blessing to them. They enjoyed all the gifts you packed :) we are going to raise the flag at school and it looks so beautiful, my children are so cheerful to receive the chocolate, it really tastes so nice. Thank you so much for being a blessing to us, your class is amazing and caring. You brought hope to my kids all of them they never thought of this great love :) Brenda has not appeared in the photo because she is at home still looking for fees to be at school, when she comes I will take her photo with her present. The whole group missed her and we prayed for her God to enable her to be at school.
Yes I know you’re busy but you’re always near to us in prayers, Ooh we shall miss you students to us September it’s like a full year. In mathematics we learn about Pythagoras theory, it’s so wonderful that he came from you country. I will tell my kids about it, it’s so exciting because almost all of them they have ever heard of him.
My life is well and the normal classes are starting next week, this week students have been arriving and am so happy they are all fine. I have attached some of the photos. Thank you so much for being a blessing to us and all your effort to see that we receive these wonderful gifts. May God's bountiful blessings to be upon you

LETTER FROM NEW ZEALAND!!!!
Our Senior D1 class( Mary,Theodora,Sofia,Dora,Nick,Tammy,Marios,Jimmy,Anna,Georgia and Victoria) have been emailing with epals from New Zealand.A few weeks ago, we sent them some souvenirs of Samos.
Today we got a thank you email. Here it is:
Hello, my dear friend Tina :)
Our school Term goes for another 8 weeks then we get a 2 week holiday again. We work for another 10 weeks then get another 2 week holiday. Our final term ends in the second week of December. Our Summer holiday starts then and we go back to school early February.
I love my gifts! Thank you so much, I got the surprise because I was expecting the students to get something but not me. So, I have been showing a few of my colleagues - we have 55 teachers at our school. It was suggested that I show the whole staff because this is a very, very special experience, so I will. Thank you for your kind offer to stay and after seeing the lovely book about Samos it would be nice. It may take some time to plan a trip there though as I work part-time.
Most of the cups arrived in one piece and the ones that didn't the student will make a mosaic with the pieces. We were extremely impressed that most of the cups traveled such a long way and didn't break! The students loved the lollies/chocolates and immediately went to try the cups to see if they leaked when over-filled. I have one question, because of not being able to read Greek, I haven't worked out what is in the bottle yet. Please excuse my ignorance.
Thank you for making this week's teaching and learning a special delight.
